Tech Talk Birdcage Timing
Stu Snyder and Jason Martin chat about some possible topics that racers would like to see more information on. Stu wants to know the way we square cars on the rear end, time the bird cages and rear arm length, and how to set the front end. Everyone has their own way of doing it, but some techniques are more successful than others.
Jason explains the unique design of EMi's birdcage design. On these cages, the spud is in line with the radius rod, so it has zero bind. This configuration tends to confuse people because it seems the spud is behind the centerline. In reality, the spud is in the center exactly like it is in the bottom of the flag.
For the squaring routine, get the rearend squared at the measurements you prefer, then use an angle gauge just below the bolt to level it. After it’s leveled at your ideal angle, pull the arm up, set the birdcage flag and adjust the heim to slide in and out. Check out the video
