Speedway Tech Talk - Measuring U Joints
Speedway Motors employee Pat O. takes a few minutes to share a quick Tech Tip on how to properly measure your yoke for a universal joint.
Pat starts with a standard 1310-style drive yoke, the common Chevrolet yoke. The valleys where the universal joint sits have a small keeper built in to retain the caps. Using a tape measure, calipers, or ruler, you simply measure the distance between the inside of the retainer tabs like Pat shows, and you have the length of the universal joint you need.
You will also need the diameter of the caps, and to do that Pat shows that you can measure across the top of the saddle where the caps fit.
