Jeff Huneycutt graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of North Carolina in 1993. His first job out of college included splitting time between covering college basketball and NASCAR magazines.
Quickly, he learned that when it comes to motorsports, the people he admires most aren't the drivers, it's the engine builders and fabricators behind the scenes.
Since then, he has worked in the motorsports industry with a wide variety of publications specializing in tech and how-to articles. These include Stock Car Racing, Hot Rod, Circle Track, Chevy High Performance, Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords, and Car Craft. He's also written two books, including a co-authored work with Larry McReynolds revealing the secrets of being a successful NASCAR crew chief. That work was awarded a gold medallion by the International Society for Vehicle Preservation.
Jeff was also honored as NPMC’s Person of the Year for his magazine tech stories. Over the years, he's built relationships with former Hot Rod editor Jim McFarland, engine builders Keith Dorton and Doug Yates, and Larry McReynolds, who is one of the greatest crew chiefs in NASCAR history.
Currently, when he isn't writing for Speedway Motors' Toolbox, he produces engine build videos for his YouTube channel, The Horsepower Monster. In his garage he's down to just two project cars -- a 1978 Camaro and a 1980 Corvette, and his daily is a 2021 Ford Bronco.
