Updating the brakes on a '51 Deluxe

In this Tech Tip, John makes a few suggestions for a customer looking to update the braking system on his ’51 Deluxe.

“I would like to install a dual master cylinder system on the firewall of my 1951 Chevy Styleline Deluxe (235 c.i.d. with Powerglide automatic transmission) in place of my original single master cylinder under the floorboard. Can you please recommend the best parts for this modification? It still has all four original drum brakes, which I would like to keep intact. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated!”

Hi, thanks for the question. You were asking about a kit to put a master cylinder on the firewall of your 51 Chevy and there are a couple of options.  One would be 91631991 in combination with master cylinder 91031445 and pushrod number 91031522.  Another option that customers prefer is number 9106004 along with the same master cylinder and pushrod.  Even though this kit is for power brakes it will also work well with manual brakes. Feel free to visit us on the web at www.speedwaymotors.com or call 1-800-979-0122 with questions or to place an order.
