Project Chevelle Episode 6: Disc Brakes
After getting the control arms and drop spindles installed last time, we are dying to see what it looks like on the ground. Today we are working with the Speedway Deluxe Disc Brake Kit for 1964-74 GM A Body.
We are switching to Speedway’s G-Comp 2-inch drop spindles for this disc brake conversion. The original GM drum brake spindles have the boss bolted to the top for the backing plate. The boss is thicker on a drum brakes spindle than a disc brake spindle. Disc brake caliper brackets will not fit on a drum brake spindle. You can adjust the spindle to make it work, or Speedway carries a disc brake factory GM spindle option that has the boss shortened as well as the G-Comp option.
We went with the G-comp spindle that allows you to bolt it all together plus added geometry.
The Disc brake kit fit right onto the G-Comp spindles. Next step it taking over to the alignment shop to confirm we are set!
