How-to Adjust Buick Finned Drums

1/26/2018
Add Article To List

Tim answers the frequent question of which drums can be used with Speedway’s Bendix Style Brakes. If you would like to learn more about the self-energizing aspect of brakes, Tim explains in further detail in his Speedway Tech Talk – Ford Juice Brakes Versus Self-Energizing Brakes.

Tim describes the Buick Finned Drum Brakes that he found for his hot rod. The first step that is required when you find these drums is to remove the original hubs. You will also need to drill the correct bolt pattern. Tim continues, explaining how-to adjust your hub to fit inside the drum brake and adding a spacer ring to fit outside the hub. As a final note, you will need to mill down the raised edge by the brake line.

Tim is a purist at heart and finds this process worth it in the end!
