How to Measure For Steering Linkage
Tie-Rods/Drag-Links
So here’s the scenario, your front end is mocked up and you’re ready to pull measurements for the steering linkages. The spindles and steering arms are bolted up, along with the steering box and pitman arm - ready to go. The first thing you should do is make sure your spindles are straight ahead, and you have the steering box in its centered position, meaning it’s midway between the left and right turn limits. Then it’s as simple as measuring eye-to-eye between your steering arm holes and pitman arm hole.
Once you have your measurements, Speedway offers two basic types of tie rod and drag link kits. Depending on the style of steering components you’re using, the first kit uses a 7 degree tapered tie rod end, such as part number 91632504. The other option is a heim joint style rod end that you will slide a bolt through to attach, like part number 91632501. Both kits will include tie rod ends, heim joints, and jam nuts. We supply them in both pre-cut and custom lengths.
