Employee Rides: Sport Modified - Devyn Peterson
To some, racing is just something they’ve gotten into for fun or that is their hobby. To me racing is all I’ve ever known.
I started racing go-karts at the age of five in the rookie class and moved up at the early age of 8 to the Junior 1 class. I ran a year or two locally and won the Track Championship in the last year of competition at Wavelink Raceway Park. After Wavelink closed in 2009 we started to travel a lot more and raced with several traveling series and soon transferred, again at an earlier age, to the Junior 2 class. When we weren't at a national race we went to a few local races close to home. In the last season of go-karts I managed to win 11 races straight and we were nearly unbeatable. At the end of my go-karting career at a local, regional, and national level, we ended up with 93 wins and 4 Track Championships.
At age 13 I got behind the wheel of a Sport Modified. My birthday was in July and the car was all ready to race. I hot lapped and practiced as much as I could at a variety of tracks until I turned the minimum age of 14. In the middle of the 2014 season I began racing at two local tracks, I-80 Speedway and Junction Motor Speedway. Between then and now there’s been an immense amount of learning. Along the way I’ve been able to pick up wins at several tracks all around the Midwest, including big races such as the McCool 100, the Spring Meltdown, World of Outlaws support class, and the Wayne Hicks Memorial to name a few. Hopefully this is just the beginning!
