Built With Speedway Motors: Mike's 1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II

This is a seriously cool story from one of our customers. We met Mike on Hot Rod Power Tour and he's a cool guy with a great car and an even better story. Here it is in his own words...

"I built this car so I could race at Bonneville and drive on the Hot Rod Power Tour and Woodward Cruise.

The Mercury is one of several hundred made for NASCAR with an extended front, flush grille and rear bumper modified on the front of car. I found the car in California on eBay, flew out to LA and drove it home to Cincinnati. I have driven it on many Power Tours and in 25 states. I have driven the Merc to Bonneville three times and ran 170mph so far.

To be able to run at Bonneville I had to have a lot of safety equipment installed. Roll cage, door net, race seat, fire suppression system and parachute. Over the last 8 years that I have owned the Cyclone I have purchased many parts from Speedway Motors.

I’ve been into cars for as long as I can remember, played with cars since I was a little guy. I love when someone comes up to me and talks about where and when they have seen me. Sometimes it was years before on the Hot Rod Power Tour or on the salt. I have friends all over the country thanks to being part of the car community.

My goal for years has been to build a street legal car that I can drive on the HRPT, Woodward, and pass safety tech at Bonneville. I have just completed HRPT 2023 and now I am going to try to run 200mph at Speedweek!"
