Tech Talk: Racing Shocks - Shock Rubs
Right here in his own shop, Kyle Vanover goes over how tire rubs affect shocks.
Although tire rubs seem merely cosmetic, they can cause some serious damage to the inside of the shock. The extra heat from the friction can harm the gas bag or divider piston. For example, it's possible for the heat to melt the gas bag. If it gets to this point the shock will fail.
On a monotube, tire rubs will heat up the O ring which can cause the nitrogen gas and oil to slip past. This also results in a shock fail.
If your shocks have a tire rubs on them, give us a call. We’d be happy to help you out!
