Derek began working on cars as soon as he was able to, helping his dad work on the family car when he was little. He has had a love for all things automotive since childhood and spent many years hanging around garages and racetracks.
He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in government journalism from California State University, Sacramento. Derek also attended Reedley Junior College where he began his writing career.
Writing about classic vehicles, maintenance, and modifications has helped him pay the bills, but documenting the history of the automobile is Derek’s true passion.
Derek even received an honorable mention in a national writing competition for an article about a road trip in a vintage British sportscar.
He has also been involved with the Mustang Club of America and the United British Sportscar Club for more than a decade.
