James spent a good portion of his formative years wrenching in a garage alongside his dad and brother. His grandfather loved repairing and building air-cooled Volkswagens—some with supercharged powerplants. James’ dad took that passion to another level with twin-turbo jet boats, Novas, Corvettes, Mustangs, and more.
After graduating from Texas State University in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in Geography, James spent 12 years in the motorcycle industry working for AF1 Racing before transitioning to the automotive world, where he became Editor of Ford Muscle magazine. He now works full-time in marketing, using his creativity and automotive knowledge to write for the enthusiast market.
In addition to his work, James has served on the senior leadership panel for Mustang Week.
James has built several cars, including a 1986 Ford F-150, a 1988 Ford Bronco, a 1995 Ford F-150 Lightning, a 2002 Ford F-150 Lightning, a 1995 Toyota Supra, a 1988 Toyota Celica All-Trac, multiple 1985–1994 Toyota MR2s, a 1995 Toyota Supra, a 1971 Chevrolet Nova , a 1955 Chevrolet 2-Door Post, a 1989 Chevrolet Corvette, a 1968 VW Tube Chassis Drag Bug, a 1969 VW Chopped-Top Drag Bug, a 1971 VW Baja Bug, and a 1973 VW Thing.
