Four-Link Your Advance-Design ’47-’54 Chevy Truck with Our Bolt-In Kit
Trucks may still be how work gets done today, but there’s no denying that the truck market has grown to include those that use a truck as personal transportation, a weekend toy, or even as a race car. Classic trucks no longer languish in fields rusting away. They are plucked from the jaws of death to be given a new lease on life as a project vehicle. And while the ’67-’72 C10 (and even Square Body and OBS models) is hot right now, we can’t forget about the “OG” here, the Advance-Design Chevy pickup built from 1947-1954. It is still a very viable option for a project with period styling that still looks great to this day.
The downside to such an old truck is obviously going to be the suspension and brakes. Updating the ox cart-like buggy-spring ride with something that will improve handling, traction, and ride quality is a must. There are a lot of, shall we say, complicated offerings on the market that require all manner of modifications and welding to bring the ’47-’54 Chevy truck’s ride improvements up to modern standards. We feel you should be able to reap similar suspension benefits with a bolt-in solution that can easily be installed in a weekend in your garage or shop, and our engineers have created just such a kit that checks all the right boxes, including no welder required.
A Triangulated Four-Link System That Is Adjustable for Handling, Grip, And Ride Height
Upgrading to a triangulated 4-link suspension provides you with the ability to adjust your rear suspension’s ride height, spring rates (250 lb/in springs included), shock valving, and pinion angle with ease. Triangulating the four-link rear suspension not only provides better handling and stability but allows for generous routing clearance for dual exhaust. The unsprung weight is reduced as well, improving the rear suspension’s ability to respond to road imperfections and maintaining maximum tire contact patch with the road for effective traction and braking ability. Triangulating the upper links also means that there is no need for an intrusive Panhard bar to aid in locating the rear axle, as the triangulated upper links handle that job. Without the need for a Panhard bar there is more room for your exhaust routing and for frame mounted fuel tanks behind the axle.
Bolt On Four-Link Conversion Frame Brackets Crafted from 7-Gauge Sheet Steel
Beginning with our frame brackets for the upper and lower links, we laser cut and form these in house from 7-gauge sheet steel for precise fitment on your ’47-’54 Chevy pickup’s frame rails. The axle brackets, 7-gauge steel upper and ¼-inch steel plate lowers, are already welded to our super strong 9-inch axle housing assembly ready to bolt in. The bolt-in shock crossmember is devised from .120-inch wall thickness 2x2 square tubing, precisely welded for a drop in fit to your frame rails as well. All brackets and links are bare steel ready to be painted or powder coated.
Included in our four-link suspension kit are steel upper and lower links with urethane bushed chromoly adjusters (16-inch and 21-1/2-inch center to center length), and aluminum QA1 single adjustable coilovers with chrome plated AFCO 250lb rate 10-inch coilover springs. All mounting hardware for the 4-link coilover conversion kit is included for the four-link suspension kit frame brackets and shock crossmember, to attach the 60-inch flange-to-flange dimension 9-inch housing and upper and lower links to the frame brackets, as well as mounting the coilover shocks to the axle housing and shock crossmember.
Add Axles, 3rd Member, and Brakes to Complete Your 4-Link Suspension Update
To complete your 4-link rear suspension you’ll need to source your choice of 9-inch 3rd member with appropriate axles, along with a drum or disc brake kit of your liking. The good news is that you can find everything else you need right on our shelves! Start with our hand-built premium 9-inch 3rd members and choose your axle spline count (28 or 31 spline) and gear ratio (from 3.00 to 4.56!). For axles you’ll need one 30-5/8-inch long and one 28-1/4-inch long. These can be direct fit or our cut-to-fit options. Either way, we offer dozens of 9-inch axle options. Last are the rear brakes. We offer nearly 200 different 9-inch rear disc brake kits from mild to wild. Or if you’re looking to keep it old school, our 9-inch drum brake kits are a great option as well. Don’t forget you’ll need our 3rd member mounting hardware kit and 3rd member gasket to bolt everything up.
Upgrade your ’47-’54 Chevy truck’s old leaf spring rear suspension to a modern triangulated 4-link suspension setup in a weekend with no welding required. Stock frames will require the removal of the original leaf spring mounts (basic grinder work to remove the frame rivets), then it’s just a matter of lining everything up properly and drilling new/additional mounting holes for the rear 4-link kit’s various brackets. Pair this kit with our ’47-’54 center chassis crossmember for additional strength/support, and our bolt-in Mustang II-style independent front suspension crossmember kit for a truck that will handle with the best of them!

Customers consistently praise our product for its perfect fit, even in vintage vehicles such as a 1950 Chevy panel truck, and its easy installation. The flexibility to modify for larger tire sizes is appreciated. Slight modifications may be needed, but overall, the product is high quality, easy to assemble, and enhances the vehicle's performance. Notably, it seems to fit both stock and Speedway frames excellently. The adjustable QA1's received special mention for their fantastic functionality. It appears well constructed, practical and facilitates the desired outcome, even when using independently sourced components. A few customers recommended welding for easier installation.

Installed in a 1950 Chevy panel truck that will be a tow vehicle for my drag car, race alongside me at the track, and travel cross country. Super easy install. Fit perfectly. Easy to modify because it moves the shock on the inside of the frame, gives you more room for bigger tire size. https://youtube.com/channel/UC9CU3fe566UmB678CN53eGg

Installed in less than a day in my 1953 Chevy 3100. Fit stock frame great. Very slight modifications are needed. I had to squeeze the upper 4 link brackets in a vise to close them up very slightly. I had to grind the corner off the lower 4 link brackets, again very slightly. It went together great and looks amazing.

Great setup for our truck! Everything fit perfect and went together easy. The adjustable QA1's are awesome! Make sure you get the thrust bearing kit for the shocks to make them easier to adjust. We used the Speedway frame rails so I can't say how easy it fits the stock frame. Another great kit from Speedway!

I have the speedway front suspension and rear four link kit for my pick up. I am very impressed with both of them, this four link kit was very easy to put together and very nice quality. It required a few modifications like grinding etc. but that is to be expected. I ended up just welding my stuff in since it was easier that way.

I bought the kit when the axle wasn't provided. and you had to weld the perches to the rear end you supplied and I was satisfied then. I used a ford 8.8 out of a junkyard on my kit. the kit appears well made and i'm happy.

I noticed your kit comes with 250lb springs and single adjustable shocks at a certain length. I am looking for a comfortable soft ride and have a certain ride height I want. If the ride quality and height are not within my spec can I exchange these kit parts out with what I am looking for? I also have a third member with 28 spline carrier, what axle kit (right)/(left) do I need? Thank You for your reply.
