A True Bolt-In Mustang II Independent Front Suspension Solution For 47-54 Chevy Pickups

Straight axle pickup trucks, like the 1947-1954 Chevy 3100 and 3600 models (1/2 and 3/4 ton respectively) were originally designed for hauling cargo and not hauling butt! These trucks dutifully handled deliveries and served farmers and other owners for decades. However, today these GM Advance Design trucks are sought after for their period styling and certainly not for how they stopped, handled, or accelerated. These are all easily updated today to provide enthusiasts with those classic truck stylings, but that are now able to handle modern roads safely.

The Mustang 2 frontend is a popular independent front suspension (IFS) solution available for dozens of different car and truck models, from pre-war hot rods through 1960s and ’70s muscle cars; full frame or unibody there is probably a Mustang II IFS suspension kit available. The majority of these Mustang 2 crossmembers require welding for installation. We wanted to make the addition of a Mustang 2 crossmember to the popular Advance Design 1947-1954 GM 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks something the average wrench turner could install themselves in a weekend with nothing more than a drill and some hand tools. Our 1947-1954 Chevy truck Mustang 2 crossmember, spring towers, and frame boxing plates are designed to not only bolt in, but interlock each other as well, creating a super strong chassis design. Classic Truck magazine’s Week to Wicked build even featured this Mustang 2 crossmember in our ’52 Chevy truck.

Our bolt-in Mustang 2 frontend crossmember kit for 1947-1954 Chevy half-ton and 3/4 ton pickups includes all hardware and instructions for an easy weekend project. Engine mount options include small block Chevy and GM’s popular LS family of engines. Our Mustang II suspension and brake package is the perfect solution for building a complete hub-to-hub IFS suspension kit. Finish off your Mustang II frontend installation with our 1947-1954 Chevy truck bolt-in transmission crossmember and pair your Chevy IFS install with our matching four-link rear bolt on suspension kit for the ultimate in handling.
