Western Chassis was established in 1981 in California's Central Valley upon development of the first automotive drop spindle. The area was a haven for lowered vehicles, especially trucks. Cutting or heating the vehicle's springs compromised ride quality to achieve the lowered look. In order to offer a solution to poor ride issues, Western Chassis developed the first drop spindle for the 1955-1957 model Chevrolet passenger cars. This was quickly followed by the first drop spindle for the C-10 Chevrolet Pickup (1970-1987).
