Lucas Prucha grew up watching the Ruan Greater Des Moines Grand Prix. He remembers watching the great 1990’s SCCA Trans-Am and Formula race cars drive through downtown in Des Moines, Iowa. When the family got home, they’d help work on his dad’s 1938 Chevy Coupe restoration and various European classic cars.
Speedway Motors has been lucky enough to have Lucas on the team since 2008. He joined the Machine Shop after earning an Automotive Technology degree from Southeast Community College and completing Bridgestone Racing Academy’s mechanic training program. In 2017, Lucas earned his degree in Manufacturing Management from the University of Minnesota Crookston.
Lucas can pretty much do it all. He’s knowledgeable in wiring, fabrication, engine building, suspension design, custom machined parts, as well as paint and body. He’s raced autocross with SCCA on and off over the years, and he has more than a few of his own projects under his belt. He’s built a 2002 Camaro Z28 Road Race car, a 1988 Pontiac Trans-Am for autocross and various square body Chevy truck and Blazers. He also built a custom moped made from Honda CR125 dirt bike suspension, a pit bike engine and a bicycle crank set. Lucas owns a 2003 Corvette Z06, which he’s building into a track day road race car. He also owns a 2004 XJR with a Supercharged 450hp 4.2L V8, which he also lowered. His offroad vehicle is a 2011 Nissan Xterra Pro4X, which he drives up mountain trails in Colorado. He restored his previous 1917 Craftsman-style house and is doing constant work on his current Mid-Century house.
