A Custom Length Driveshaft Right to Your Door

We have all been there. You just spent the weekend with a few friends dropping in that hot V-8 and your transmission of choice into your project’s rolling chassis. What is next? Connecting all that performance to your rear axle via a driveshaft.

However, your existing driveshaft (if you even have one) is likely 50 years old or is no longer correct for the new transmission and/or rear axle you have upgraded to. What to do? In the past you probably would have trailered your project to a driveshaft shop, dropped it off to have a custom driveshaft made, and picked it up several days later with a shiny new driveshaft installed.

While this certainly works, we know not everyone has a car trailer and something suitable to pull it with. Not to mention the thought of leaving your baby at some shop where it could possibly be damaged. Now, thanks to Speedway Motors’ new line of custom length steel drive shafts made to order, all you have to do is take a few simple measurements, place your order, and wait by the mailbox for your new Speedway drive shaft to show up! How much easier can it be than that?

Built with Steel for Strength and to Save You Money

There are a lot of great materials to make super strong driveshafts capable of high horsepower and we are often asked about an aluminum driveshaft vs carbon fiber. But we know most of our customers are going to be running a crate engine or custom build of 600 HP or less, and for the capability and value a steel driveshaft vs aluminum is the best answer.

Our driveshafts begin as lengths of “driveshaft quality” 3-inch OD 1020 DOM tubing. Using the overall length measurement you provide us, along with the U-joint sizes and slip yoke/driveshaft yoke application you spec, we cut, assemble, weld, and balance your driveshaft so it is ready to go right out of the box once you receive it.

Ready to Install Right out of the Box

We offer popular universal joint sizes like 1310 and 1350 that are fully greasable for long life, and our driveline yoke applications cover just about any automatic or manual transmission that was used by the OEMs or in popular drivetrain swaps.

What that means is, whether you are looking for a driveshaft for your stock ’69 Camaro with a 1330 U-joint or a driveshaft for your ’32 Ford with Tremec TKO-500 five-speed using a 1350 U-joint behind a built Flathead set back in the frame four inches, we have your project covered.

Order your steel driveshaft today by clicking “add to cart” and selecting your specific driveshaft components and keep your custom driveshaft cost in check!

Driveshaft Length Conversion Information

To determine the u-joint center-to-center measurement, subtract the following amount from the overall length provided:

T350-10 transmission: Subtract 2.75 inches from the submitted length.

T400-10 transmission: Subtract 2.625 inches from the submitted length.

Example:

Submitted length: 50.00"

T350-10 center-to-center length = 47.25"

T400-10 center-to-center length = 47.375"

This adjustment provides the correct u-joint center-to-center driveshaft measurement for comparison and fitment purposes.

Overall Assessment

Customers highly praise the product for its high-quality build, precision, and fast delivery. Notably, it's described as the easiest way to get a new driveshaft, requiring just a single measurement for a customized order. Its careful balancing, efficient torque transfer, and fitting effectiveness are much appreciated. The driveshaft was also highlighted for its on-point finishing, speedy production, and early delivery. However, customers suggest careful measurement for order precision and might not appreciate promotional stickers. The product's quality, convenience, and delivery speed outclass competitor offerings.

Definitely would buy again!

Ok, so I never do reviews but seeing as it's to benefit all other hot rodders out there I'm going to tell you it is worth it. This shaft fit my 1978 4door malibu classic with a 6.0/4l80e and stock 10 bolt rear-end. I used the ict billet engine mount adapters with stock clamshells, I used a G-Force transmission x-member for a 4l80e and the extension as per the year required it, using stock 10 bolt rear-end, it slipped in perfect. My driveshaft is exactly what I ordered. 4l80e slip yoke with bolt hole in tail shaft (yours may not have this hole) I went with a 1310 Front U-joint (1350 ujoint is bigger and may be what you want in a higher horse power 4x4 etc build). GM G-Body 10 bolt rear-end takes a 3R Rear U-joint, my measurement came out to 52 1/16" ( I just ordered an even 52"). make sure to measure and double check before you order! Shafts are non returnable. I hope this helps another Gbody person out there.

they should ask more questions

too generic asking what series u joint you need, they used cheap 1310 rear yoke on shaft with conversion u joint to a 1330 i asked for however i need a 1330 big cap so now im spending another $60 on a conversion u joint due to the small joint in shaft they installed. maybe you should ask more options or give an option for no install rear joint and shave some money off.

I needed to shorten my driveshaft and for the cost to shorten it was as much as having a new one built. Speedway build this driveshaft and shipped it the same day and it arrived and fit perfectly. I will 100% order from them again and recommend for everyone!

I Loved buying this driveshaft from Speedway Motors. It was so easy to follow directions on how to measure and order. I actually called and gave the tech my measurements over the phone so I know that shaft would arrive correctly. When I received it it was already painted and ready to install. Took the guess work out of it and did not have to tow car to a shop to have a shaft made. Very easy I must say.
