For nearly forty years, the Ignitor has proven itself in applications ranging from race cars to tractors. the Ignitor replaces breaker points and troublesome factory electronic ignitions with a dependable, self contained and maintenance free electronic ignition system. the Ignitor has been called the stealth ignition because of its quick installation and nearly undetectable presence under your distributor cap. there is no black-box to clutter the engine compartment. For optimal performance, use the Ignitor with Flame-thrower 40,000 volt coils.

Needs some modifications

Have installed 2 of these. Needs some slight mods to fit properly. There was no thrust clearance for the shaft. Assembled as is the distributor is to tight and there is no room for the fiber thrust washer. I machined the inside of the distributor case for some more clearance. Worked fine after that.

Used on my 48 Ford V8 flathead to replace the original points. I had to file the mounting plate so it would fit in the original distributor housing. Seems to work well. The car started instantly after setting several months. I also used the Pertronix coil.

Will the 1285LS Ignitor Kit work on a 48 Ford 2-bolt Crab distributor ?... the application notes say: "Not for use with solid core spark plug wires, 2 bolt front mount distributor". That note may be in reference to the 12V positive ground Ignitor version... just a little confused. Thank you Jim

Just to be clear: This ignitor working with a Pertronix 40001 coil does not require a ballast distributor. So, I can remove or bypass the stock ballast resistor, right? Please confirm that the stock condenser is retained. Must I use solid core spark cables, or can I use supressor type cables? The car is for street use, not competition.
