Technical Overview
Introduced in 1997, the LS engine series, known as the Gen-III Small-Block by General Motors, debuted with the all-aluminum LS1 in the C5 Corvette and iron-block variants in trucks. Subsequent iterations, referred to as Gen III and Gen IV, have earned the "LS" nickname among enthusiasts for their remarkable performance potential. Chevrolet Performance Parts are meticulously engineered, developed, and tested to surpass expectations for fit, function, and durability, embodying innovation beyond raw power.
This long block features a 24X crankshaft trigger and 1X camshaft trigger system, compatible with Gen III small-block V8 engines produced from 1997 to 2006. This design enables straightforward replacement in existing Gen III applications, allowing customers to reuse sensors, exhaust systems, and engine mounts from their current setup. The long block incorporates high-flow rectangular cylinder head intake ports, originally used on Gen IV LS3 engines, which outperform the intake ports of earlier Gen III engines. To accommodate these heads, a new intake manifold from a Gen IV vehicle (6.0-6.2L) with rectangular intake ports is required.
