Steering box looks to be well made but I would have to modify too many things to make it work. Would have to add additional shims to the 3/8" shims that came with the mounting hardware for my manual steering box. The welded nut on the front of the mounting plate would have to be drilled out or ground off. The headers would need to replaced and exhaust would need to be reconfigured. The pitman arm designed for this application did not fit and would need to be modified or replaced.

I would be careful if you are looking for a replacement box.

I bought the box because according to the advertisement it's dimensions were smaller than the 605 and 608 box and I wanted to migrate from a 525 box to power steering. When I received it and tried to install it in my '31 Chevy coupe it was physically bigger in the wrong spots. It would have required too much customization. The quality is fine.

Upgraded manual Vega steering box on 35 Ford coupe street rod. The p/s casting needs more spacers to clear the adapter plate. Instead, I cut the plate at rear end to sit low and closer to frame rail. Not finished with install but this detail is noteworthy in close quarters.

Changed my manual steering to power on my 34 Ford Coupe.

Installed on my 32 Ford with SBC. Works really well and very pleased. Had to modify pump bracket to keep it tight under the hood. Used serpentine belt. Had to build adapter plate to mount on standard box mounts as new box is slightly bigger.

I intend to use this steering mechanism with my project, but will be running a Flathead V8 and wondered if there are compatible pumps or kits available. If not, what pressure can does this unit operate at so I can see if I could cobble together some alternative. Cheers Steve

I have 1930 ford coupe, fendered with a 327. I need power steering and bought the Vega cross steering box from you. The problem I found is that in trying mount the box forward of the motor as I saw in a diagram I can't get the rod from the steering column forward to the box due to the block hugger headers being in the way. Any ideas? or can I just mount that box wear the old one was at the base of the column and not have cross steering. I'm really lost. Thank you
