Built With Speedway Motors: Randy's '64 Dodge A/FX Clone
In this installment of our ongoing series highlighting our customer's cars, we bring you Randy's wild clone of the "Poison Ivey" Dodge A/FX'er from back in the day. As always, we think these are best when told by the car's owner or builder. Here's Randy on his crazy creation...
This is a very close clone of the "Poison Ivey's" Dodge A/FX that was raced all over the Midwest in 1966. I knew Terry Ivey and wish he was still around to see this car. His family give me permission to recreate it and let me look at all the original build pictures of this car to create this clone.
Though the original car is long gone it had a 426 Race Hemi with aluminum front sheet metal and ran on nitro. Terry won 80% of his match races with the car. This car doesn't have a hemi but it does have 512 cid of big block Chrysler with a Hilborn stack injector that I fabricated from a big block Chevy unit. This car has a Doug Nash 5-speed manual transmission with 8 3/4 Mopar rear end.
Thanks to Speedway Motors for providing lots of parts, I am able to continue racing this car at vintage drag races to show fans what it was like in the match race wars of 1966!
