Ratings & Reviews
4.1
15 Reviews
Customers appreciate the product for its effectiveness, affordability, and easy installation, as well as its exact fit for particular car models such as 1952 and 1963 Fords. The pump is generally deemed reliable and similar in function to the original part. However, some buyers noted issues with rough edges and the need for reworking before installation. The value and practicality was repeatedly emphasized by re-purchase intentions and recommendations to others. Certain complaints about the product's country of origin and subpar craftsmanship were reported, but the overall sentiment remains positive, favoring the product's qualities over its flaws.

An Excellent Product in Every Way
After the costs rebuilding a flathead it seems dumb to use the original oil pump. This pump more than serves the need and at a very sensible cost. I have used these Speedway pumps and pick ups for many years and have always been totally pleased with the results.

Must be inspected and/or reworked before installation.
When the pump arrived and was unpacked I noticed lots of sharp edges and burrs. Knowing what was on the outside probably defined what was on the inside, I disassembled the complete pump - everything. I found plenty of very sharp edges on every surface and I also found machining chips from the manufacturing process - not good for a new motor. Every component was inspected, deburred as required and inspected again. Gear end play clearance was good - between .002 & .003 without the gasket. I put everything back together with the confidence that the pump will do the job without putting contamination in my new motor. The price is right for the pump if you're prepared to spend some time making it right. No assuming it's good without checking.

As always, Speedway's product availability, order fulfillment, and delivery, were exceptional- exactly what I have come to expect. However, the product itself was in need of some help. Upon opening the package, this item looked fine. I turned the pump by hand, and it was not smooth. I added a small quantity of oil to it, and it locked up. Long story short, in the end, I needed to take the pump apart, and de-burr the cover, the one end of the drive gear, and both ends of the driven gear to obtain a fit and feel that I was convinced would be reliable. Took me about an hour and a half.
