Speedway Motors 9300550S Details

Now available in polished stainless steel! Nostalgia-style street rods are hotter than ever, and nothing gives your vintage rod that authentic dry lakes competition look like a set of lakester headers. These exposed small block Chevy headers work great on rods without hoods, but we’ve also seen them peeking through carefully trimmed hood sides. Each lakester header has a flange so you can connect it to a muffled under-car exhaust when the end plate is on.

Fits 265-400 c.i. with standard or Vortec heads including D-port ZZ-4 style heads (not LT-1)
1-5/8" primary
2.50" exhuast pipe
Includes flange to connect 2” exhaust pipe
Removable end plates allow you to run open headers with ease
Headers come with end plates, but the turn-outs are NOT included
Includes gaskets and mounting hardware

Stainless header tubing, when exposed to exhaust temperature, will cause the finish to change color which will vary with the exhaust temperature. Please note that the finish of the header, when the engine is started, will change to a light champagne color or a darker gold finish, and in some instances, may even turn dark blue or purple. These colors can be polished out using Blue-Away or Simi-Chrome polish, but please note that when the headers reach running temperature again, they will immediately change color.

Overall Assessment

Customers praise the product's appearance, dubbing it a "true hot rod look" with nice headers. Appreciation is expressed for its visual transformation in color which occurs during use, a feature attributed to its polished stainless material. However, some buyers observed minor damage in the form of small dings. One notable concern is the unexpected, rapid color change after just minutes of use, raising questions about material quality. Customers caution prospective buyers about this. Despite this, the product provides a visually pleasing experience, outshining competitors.

Don't bother buying unless you want your "polished stainless headers" to turn yellow, purple, brown within 10 minutes of installation. Speedway is unwilling to admit this is an inferior product and does not provide a warning to buyers of the rapid color change. See photo attached taken after a 10 minute drive. Speedway claims this is normal for the product. I don't understand why they would sell it as a polished stainless item, why polish if it looks like this after 10 minutes use. Buyer beware!
