Billet Aluminum Valve Covers Provide Valvetrain Clearance with Leak Free Fitment
Whether it is a race engine that sees sustained high rpm use every weekend, or just a fun ice cream cruiser, no one likes oil leaks. Stamped steel SBC valve covers usually get the nod for OEM engines and crate engines due to their low cost, keeping the overall vehicle or crate engine cost down. However, stamped steel “tin” small block Chevy valve covers have an annoying issue of deforming around the mounting holes due to being overtightened and sometimes even due to the type of gasket material being used. They also are generally not very friendly to aftermarket valvetrain components like roller rockers and rocker arm adjuster nuts. The solution? A CNC machined billet aluminum valve cover designed for extra valvetrain clearance and machined with a solid and supportive gasket rail.
CNC Machined from Solid 6061-T6511 Billet Aluminum Ensures Quality
We start with solid 6061 aluminum billets to create each valve cover. Precise CNC machining creates the valve cover’s profile, laser flat 5/16-inch (.32-inch) wide and 1/4-inch (.25-inch) thick gasket rails, and accurate valve cover mounting bolt hole locations. The design was 3D modeled to ensure proper fitment on all major Gen1 small block Chevy cylinder head designs that utilize perimeter-style valve cover mounting bolt patterns, including 13-, 18-, and 23-degree valve angle variants.
Our small block Chevy aluminum valve covers are stress-relieved, and heat treated before being given a durable black anodized finish to protect the aluminum and complement any engine compartment. The smooth surface with no oil fill or breather openings means that your engine must have alternative oil fill/breather location (typical of a sprint car engine), such as through the intake manifold oil fill. You can drill and install grommets for some breathers/crankcase evacuation systems provided the grommet design works with the angled top of these valve covers.
Just Add Your Favorite Gaskets and Mounting Hardware
Pair these billet aluminum small block Chevy valve covers with a quality set of SBC perimeter bolt valve cover gaskets in either cork, or steel core rubber if you prefer. Both SBC valve cover gasket options will seal aluminum valve covers like these extremely well. To secure your new valve covers you’ll need a set of valve cover fasteners to finish the job. We offer both traditional SBC valve cover bolts, wing bolts, and of course stud kits as well in the traditional 1/4-20 thread pitch for SBC cylinder heads.
So, whether it’s your race engine or the crate motor in your Saturday night cruiser, top off your small block Chevy with a pair of billet aluminum SBC valve covers that’ll keep your oil on the inside of the engine where it belongs and look good while it’s doing it!
