Speedway Motors 930C4 Details

These fender well headers provide the ultimate performance for 396-502 big block Chevy V8s in 1955-57 Chevy car applications. They kick up over the frame rail and exit just at the bottom of the cowl, which makes them perfect for Gasser-style rods and drag cars. Plus, these headers feature long primary tubes that help produce more horsepower and torque than shorter, more compact headers.

These headers are not for the faint of heart since you must cut the inner fender panels to make them fit, and tire clearance can be a problem on some applications. They may require smaller front tires to avoid contact. The stock emergency brake rod must also be altered. Can be used with most oil filter systems or transmission and starter combinations. The headers are designed to be used with engines in the stock location, not lowered as many kits do, so all '55-'57 cars should check motor mount positioning before ordering.

  • Header flange has 1-13/16” x 1-13/16" port size
  • Will require fender well cutting or alteration
  • High temp black paint finish
  • Includes bolts and gaskets
  • Note: This header actually goes upward from the head instead of down before dropping over the frame rails. From the top of the head flange to the top of the tubes is approximately 9-1/2"

Overall Assessment

Customers generally found these headers to be of high quality, excellent fit and come at a good price. These headers are reported to be perfect for several projects like the '46 Chevy pro street, '39 Chevy Business Coupe etc. There were few instances where users had to alter their settings or make major modifications but the quality and fit of the headers had been impressive. Users further recommended these headers for their practicality, usability, material quality and safety features. Constructed with thick flanges and nice heavy material, they were considered an unbeatable deal. Some customers even used them for custom installation projects. Potential improvements could include availability of headers with primaries larger than 2" diameter for larger engines. However, even with some limitations, these headers were rated as an excellent purchase for value, quality, and performance.

Great fit and performance

The Shoebox BBC fenderwell headers fit 1962 to 1967 Chevy II....IF you replace the stock sheetmetal with the tubular Gasser front end and Gasser straight axle kit. Here is my 65 Chevy II with the 355 SBC, and stock front end, laboring to run 10.80's. I ran this car since 1968 with various SBC's and fenderwell headers...tough to work on. So I am installing my 496 BBC with the Speedway 55-57 Chevy fenderwell headers, new tube frame and straight axle this winter and let the rat motor "loaf". LOUD

Some Fit and Finish issues

Installed on a '55 Chevy 2dr sedan with a bbc. The engine was located off of the stock rear (bellhousing) mounts. The headers fit tight against the passenger-side firewall, and extremely tight against the stock steering box. I have had to clearance the steering box by chamfering edges and using flat head bolts in the top. The headers fit, but I have some concerns about heat in these tight areas. Another issue I have had is with the fit and finish of some of the welded tube junctions on the driver's side header. I spoke with a very friendly and helpful customer service rep and she explained that all of the headers have this small issue. I am generally satisfied with the headers, especially when considering the very reasonable price.

It just needed a little adjustment and it's will be a perfect fit and it's way cheaper than the 12-15 hundred dollars it would've cost me I'm using them on a LS 6.0 in a 1940 Plymouth

I would not buy this again

They seem to be built good. They fit the engine well. But for the car application the passenger side fits good. But the drivers side not so well. But not sure if it the headers or the location of the engine it's all custom so not sure.

I would buy the patriot headers again since they fit better.
