Add Power Steering or Freshen Up Your Original Power Steering with Our All New GM 800 Series Box
The Saginaw 800 steering box has been a popular factory upgrade for many GM midsize vehicles and custom projects for decades. The compact size and integral power steering function means it bolts directly in place of a manual steering box and simply requires plumbing a pressure and return line to your engine mounted power steering pump. This is a much simpler solution than trying to retrofit a non-integral power steering setup, such as the Bendix system found on early Corvettes, which uses a different center link, tie-rod ends, additional hoses, and more.
The main issue with the Saginaw steering box has been availability. Previously you would either have to settle for a remanufactured unit (and there are certainly different definitions of remanufactured out there) or a high-dollar race-spec unit that was simply overkill for a street car. And good luck finding a usable box in the salvage yard today! After exhausting our available cores for rebuilt steering boxes we have made the investment in a brand new 800 series power steering gear box for your next build or to upgrade your current ride.
All New Casting and Internal Components for A Stress Free Installation
Built from OE specifications, our new Saginaw steering box uses a brand new four-bolt casting, so they will work in all factory 3-bolt or 4-bolt mounting configurations. Everything inside this steering box is new as well, including the pitman shaft, worm screw assembly, spool valve, and more. Down to the last fastener and seal, this is a brand new steering box ready for years of trouble free service in your ride. This new Saginaw 800 steering box is offered in both 3/4-30 spline input for ’77-’79 GM vehicles and 13/16-36 spline input shaft models for ’64-’73 GM vehicles.
Both of our all-new Saginaw steering box models feature a 16:1 steering ratio with 4-1/2 turns lock-to-lock steering radius. They can be used to replace a worn factory power steering gear box, upgrade many GM manual steering vehicles (see list below) to power steering, or used with conversion brackets to fit early hot rods. Don’t forget your new pitman arm if you don’t already have one for your application! You will also need a pair of hydraulic fittings for the inlet and return ports. The steering box requires a 5/8-18 to AN6 fitting and a 11/16-18 to AN6 fitting.
Lastly, be sure to add new power steering hoses and the correct rag joint or steering column U-joint to your cart for any custom applications.
Compatible with the following steering box mounts for early hot rod applications:
