There are many things that can go wrong, ending your night on the track early, but with preparation and the right equipment you can prevent many of these race ending issues. One critical area of your dirt oval track race car is its cooling system. The radiator is the heart of this cooling system and not only does it need to be protected from track debris, but also from clogging up with the slick, wet mud from the track surface. This is an issue throughout a race but especially the early laps where the track is slick, and the top surface is slung freely by the tires from other racers. These clumps of track mud can not only block the radiator core, causing reduced cooling efficiency to the point of overheating, but at the velocity some of these track surface clumps are traveling damage to your radiator’s core is a very real danger. Either situation can easily knock you out of the race and put you back on the trailer for an early frustrating ride home.

The use of radiator screens not only provides protection from track debris, protecting your radiator lap after lap, but it also reduces the amount of mud that reaches your radiator’s core fins and tubes, keeping your engine in the proper temperature range throughout the race. These radiator guards are beneficial to engine longevity and proper coolant temperatures as well as providing continued airflow to the radiator even as the screens collect mud from the track surface. Aluminum Construction with A Steel Screen for Light, Yet Strong Protection

Crafted from 3/16-inch 3003 H14 aluminum sheet that is laser cut, and press bent for a precision fit, our shaker screen kit includes everything you need to mount an effective protective layer to your race car’s radiator. The kit includes upper and lower shaker screen frame mounts that clamshell over your radiator core and are configured with five 1-inch wide fan shroud mounting tabs spaced 3-1/2 inches apart (2-1/2 inches on 24- and 26-inch versions). The 22-inch wide version features three tabs at 3-1/2 inch spacing. These tabs are designed for custom fitment using rivets, Dzus fasteners, or other mounting methods and can be easily trimmed to size or cut off if not used. Both top and bottom mounts include extra 1/4-20 bolts and threaded nut clips at each end for additional custom mounting options if needed.

These mounts are designed to hold the shaker screen frame out in front of your radiator vs mounting your radiator screen directly to the radiator core. Radiators with core thickness of 2-5/16-inch or less are accommodated by the mounting brackets. This includes the typical two-core racing radiators like our universal fit SBC radiators. The bolt-in radiator protector screen is fastened by four 1/4-20 bolts and threaded nut clips centered on each side of the screen for quick and easy removal to shake off dried mud after your race. The shaker screen itself is mild steel to take the rigors of track debris and heavy mud hitting it lap after lap without deforming or restricting airflow.

Designed for the standard 19-inch radiator core height (maximum height of 19.34 inches), the shaker mounting brackets, frame, and screen fits our 22-, 24-, 26-, and 28-, and 31-inch radiators.
