Installation Tips

How deep is your tank?
Measure the depth of your tank where the fuel sender arm will be located. Choose the sender with an operating range which includes that dimension.

Right or Left-swing arm?
Most fuel gauge senders attach with a 5-screw pattern. Two of these screws are farther apart than the other three. Position yourself such that the 2 wider-spaced holes are closest to your chest; a right side sender will have the arm (or "float ") extending to your right, and a left side sender will have the arm extending to your left. This only matters when replacing an existing sender. A first-time installation can use either one, just drill the mounting holes accordingly.

OHM
The OEMs used several different resistance ranges for fuel level indication over the years. However, some of the aftermarket gauge manufacturers follow the common Stewart Warner values (240 ohm empty, 33 ohm full). The gauges and senders that we carry (385 and 391's) use these standard Stewart Warner values.

These sending units are also included in our 910-65042 fuel level gauge kit. They will work in tanks from 6" to 24" deep and can be used as a right hand or left hand swing unit with minor adjustment. This fuel sender comes with a seal and all mounting hardware.

Customer service is the best !!

I have ordered thousands of dollars worth of parts over the last two years. I am restoring my high school 54 ford f100. I've bought 80% of my parts from speedway because the website is easy to use, free shipping above a certain amount purchased and no hassles if there's a problem!!! I've not encountered any issues except last week. I bought a fuel tank with sending unit a year and 1/2 ago and just installed it. I couldn't get the gauge to work. I called the tech like and spoke with Kelly and he agreed it's a weird problem and they would send me a new fuel sending unit. Not only did the higher ups send it for free even though it was out of warranty they paid for two day shipping cause I needed it for this weekend!!!! That's why I buys my parts from speedway motors!!! Thanks guys!! BTW. My part just arrived!!! PS we weren't sure if it was the sending unit so I will update them in a few days

I would probably not buy this product again.

I would probably buy a sending unit with a ring that slides up and down the tube if I had it to do over. I believe it would be an easier and more accurate installation. But overall satisfied.

The Sending unit worked great in my new project. Working on a !947 Panel Truck which has been updated with modern drivetrain and 12 volt system. Unit would have been a little easier to install if came with instructions for setting the float. Happy with unit and the price.

I want to replace my non-working sending unit in my 1988 Wheel Horse Tractor. it is the 33-240 ohm type - my question is what is the spacing on the holes in the cap? I need to make sure that the screw pattern is the same as I cannot alter the setting - has an ABS tank with a metal flange. I believe it will work if the pattern is the same...thanks.

Are there any 33Ω to 240Ω fuel senders that will fit into the stock 1965-thru-1968 Mustang fuel tanks (to replace the 10Ω-to-74Ω Ford)? Mounting holes in most flanges are a problem, and also need 3/8" fuel outlet. Thanks!

My original sending unit was a rear swing, not right or left. Can I use it in this fashion? I will be using a 6 bolt to 5 bolt adapter for early Ford tanks. Will I be able to orient the sender to the rear like it was factory on my car, or will I need to go right or left?
