Return PolicySpeedway deluxe king pins are a great improvement over stock-style king pins. They replace the original brass king pin bushings with precision needle bearings that provide superior strength, better lubrication and easier steering. They're simple to install and are an easy, cost-effective way to upgrade your 1942-1948 Ford suspension, as well as tubular or I-beam street rod axles using 1942-48 Ford spindles.

Customers highly rate our Kingpin Set for its durability and functionality, with many noting improved, smoother steering compared to standard bushing sets. The accompanying bearings are recognised as high quality, despite installation being somewhat tricky, particularly for the upper bearings. Some added that freezing bearings beforehand aids trouble-free installation. The product's adaptability is praised, although a few pointed out short threads on the standard grease zerk. The kit was considered convenient, saving time and money which could have been spent on shop honing, due to requiring no special tools for installation. The Kingpin has usability issues with alignment, but overall, client feedback reflects positively on the product’s quality and performance, and many would recommend this kit as a first choice over competitors.

Just ok at best
Kingpin retaining slot did not line up with retaining bolts. I contacted Speedway's tech support and sent Email with pictures of my spindles to verify what they were. They were indeed 42-48 spindles according to tech support. I was told I would have to grind out new slots to fit my spindles/axle and that this was "common". I'm not sure why this would be common but ok. You have to be extra careful you cut the slot in the exact spot or the kingpin will ride either too high or too low. I searched the web and Speedway's tech tips and found nothing on how to do this or any reference to anyone having to do this ever except in one other review here. Also note that once the bearings are pressed in on both top and bottom, you will not be able to remove the kingpin and thus the spindle in the future without barfing the bearings up. I think I would just buy the standard bushing set if I had to do this again. was way more hassle than it seemed.

Delux 1942-48 Ford King Pin Set will fit a 1948 to 1952 F1 Ford. All fitting together well with one modification required. The notch for the lock pins do not match. This is likely something many can do themselves, matching the old king pin notch. In my case I took it to a machine shop. Also, note that the directions say to keep the needle bearing in line with king pins. This is critical and requires some tweeking. they will not align themselves if installed crooked. The installation video is not very helpful as there is a lot of holding parts and talking but no detailed install demonstration.

This Kingpin set is pricey but it does work well and I expect it to hold up for many years. Bearings are better than bushings so I recommend the upgrade. The lower bearings are easy to press in but the the top ones have to be installed after the kingpins are in place and it's not easy. Save yourself some trouble and pop the top bearings in the freezer so when you are ready to install them, they go in much easier. Remember, the lower bearings are pressed in but the top bearings have to be hammered in so freezing the bearings is the way to go. Now I just need to get my front end aligned properly so I can fly down the freeway safely.

Once the installation was complete, the spindles turn as smooth as butter. However there are a couple of challenges in the installation. First, take your time installing the needle bearings. One mishit and you are buying a new bearing like I did. Second, you might have to modify the king pin to get the notch to line up with the hole in the axle... like I did. Check photo. Lastly, installing the grease zerks was a pain. The threads are too short on the standard zerk included in the kit. I found some adapters at the local parts store that were longer and allowed a secure attachment of the zerk. (amazing what 1/8" can do)

Great product, well made components, all necessary parts included. I think an improvement would be to utilize one longer needle bearing in the top spindle bore and one longer needle bearing in the lower spindle bore rather than the two small needle bearings in each spindle boss. Also, to prevent the possibility of the bearing assembly getting loose in the bore why not use the original grease fitting holes to install a set screw that would lock the bearing outer race in place.

Do I need to modify my stock axle or spindle to fit this kingpin set outside of removing the stock worn out bushings? wondering if it requires any machine work to the bores that would add to the overall cost. 1947 Ford Sedan
