Help your vintage engine keep cool by adding an electric cooling fan to your radiator. Electric fans are far more efficient than mechanical engine driven fans because they free up horsepower and only run when you want them to (when used with a fan controller, not included). Plus, most electric fans can be mounted ahead of the radiator (pusher) or behind the radiator (puller), with the more efficient location being on the engine side of the radiator as a puller configuration.

These powerful electric fans work with 6-volt electrical systems and draw 6 to 10 amps, depending on the size. The fan is supplied as a "puller" to mount behind the radiator, but it can be changed to a "pusher" by reversing the wires and mounting in front of the radiator.
  • Available in 12", 14" or 16" diameters
  • Fans have 10 straight blades
  • High impact plastic construction
  • Sealed ball bearings for long life
  • Can push or pull
  • Works with positive or negative ground systems
  • Includes mounting ears (straps not included)

For best results, be sure that your generator supplies enough current to power the fan. If it does not, check out our 6 Volt Alternator 91067169. It supplies additional current at idle to run electric accessories, unlike many factory generators. To learn more about the importance of using a fan shroud along with your cooling fan, read our tech article Radiator Cooling Performance.

*Relay and fan control sold separately.

Overall Assessment

Customers find the 6 volt electric cooling fan to be highly practical, particularly for older cars such as '37 Buick, '54 Chevy, '41 Chevy coupe, '54 Plymouth Savoy that struggle with overheating, particularly in summer or heavy traffic. The product is lauded for its easy installation, although a few consumers noted the lack of mounting hardware. Despite this minor issue, the fan's effectiveness in cooling significant portions of the car, ease of wire reversal to modify air flow direction, and overall quality were widely praised. The fan's benefit specially stands out for 6V powered cars, which appear to have limited options in the market. Some users, however, mention that the product didn't quite meet their expectations, indicating possible variability in its effectiveness across different car models.

Helping hand when needed

My 54 plymouth savoy needed a little helpful when cruising the car shows or just on a hot day since my car still has the 6 volt postive ground electrical system. And still has its original flathead 6. The fan looks heavy duty and has some weight to it. I would defiantly look at your amp draws if anybody is worried about that, but this fan has very little draw which is very good on a older car like mine

not what it said it was.

very pleased with the speed of the delivery; very pleased with customer service attention to me the customer; very pleased with the cost of shipping; very pleased with SPEEDWAY'S overall performance; not at all pleased with the product; it was advertised as .performing at 2500 cfm. it would not do this, it was very weak & would not cool my engine which was a 221cu", 85 hp flat head ford engine; had to send it back after installing & uninstalling. A serious disappointment & hassle for nothing.

Installed fan on front of radiator for 51 Chev Power Glide with stock radiator and engine. With the fan blade installed on the bracket as it arrived no air was felt through the rad no matter what direction the fan turned. More air was coming out the front! The fan has a dish shape to scoop the air. Reversing the fan blade made it push air through the rad. Speedway should update the instructions! P.S. I am a 45 year automotive journeyman technician.

I installed this on a 1949 Chevy truck as an auxiliary fan in addition to the mechanical fan on the engine, I mounted it in front of the radiator ( out of sight ) and reversed the wires to make the fan a pusher, so I have more cooling capability now. It was an easy install using a 30 amp relay and heavy duty toggle switch, I manually power it on/off as needed and it's wired to the ignition switch so it powers off when the engine is stopped. It's nice and quiet also.

Fan came as a puller. Since I was mounting on the front of the radiator, I simply turned the fan blade around. One small nut to remove, turn blade over and replace nut.
