I am building a sbc 406 budget 500hp engine. Rather than try to regrind the old worn crankshaft, I chose to buy this one. I originally thought I could build this engine without having to go to the machine shop, but after inspecting the cylinder walls, it is mandatory. I am using a sealed power flat top piston and I may even run a small nitrous setup. I am excited to see how this crankshaft holds up!

Always measure on the money with dimensions. Why Chance a 45 year old used crank!? Pretty sure they are same foundry as scat. One or two I've bought actually said scat on them.

Do you or can you use your stock balancer and flexplate with this crank and will it support 500 hp?

Why won't it work with a 400 rod? That makes no sense whatsoever. If you have to use a 5.7 rod with this crank, what pistons do you use? Do you have to use pistons that are made to go with a 400 rod? If you have to use pistons made for a 5.7 rod, then a 400 rod with pistons made for a 400 rod should work with this crank. So please explain logically why you have to use a 5.7 rod with this crank.
