Give Your Ride A Unique Look And Sound With Double-Y Lake Headers

Lake headers, or lakester headers as some prefer to call them, provide a stylish header option for open wheel/fenderless cars like Model A, T-buckets, ’32-’34 Fords, and more. Their design and history dates to 1930s California and those racing on the dry lakes beds (hence the lake style headers terminology). These racers wanted a straightforward way to open the exhaust on their Ford Flathead V8s for more performance. The lake style headers provided a closed connection to the full under car exhaust for normal driving and a capped cone at the end of the main header for an “open header” ability for racing on the dry lakes. Today, many early hot rods still run this style of header for a nostalgia appearance. We’ve taken the Flathead Ford style of lake headers and created SBC lake style headers with a double-Y primary tube design that ends in a pair of open header stacked cones for a stylish appearance on your hot rod.

Small Block Chevy Design Supports Both Standard And Vortec Cylinder Heads

Manufactured from 18-gauge cold rolled steel, our double-Y SBC lakester headers feature 1-5/8-inch primary tubes that end in a pair of 3-1/2-inch stacked cone collectors. This larger primary tube size provides ample exhaust flow for small block Chevy engines, including strokers, up to 400 cubic inches. A robust 3/8-inch header flange is utilized to ensure a solid, leak free connection to your small block Chevy’s cylinder heads. The oval port flanges are compatible with standard Gen 1 small block Chevy heads, including the later Vortec series cylinder heads. Most aftermarket heads using the oval port exhaust pattern will work as well, however these headers are not compatible with LT1-style heads found on Gen 2 small blocks.

The stacked dual cone outlets preclude the use or ability to connect to an under car exhaust easily (though it is possible with some fabrication and welding). You can either run these lakester headers as “open headers” or you can insert exhaust header baffles to lower the exhaust decibel level for street use. The lake style header baffles are also part of our double-Y lake header kit as well if you’re looking to pick up these lake headers with header baffles together.

Everything You Need For An Easy Installation

The headers are fully welded and ready to bolt on right out of the box if you wish. These lakester headers ship as a bare steel product ready for you to finish as you desire. We suggest applying high-temperature header paint or having the headers high-heat powder or ceramic coated for corrosion protection. There is no welding or assembly required as in some lake style headers kits. Each header weighs just eight pounds and has a total length of 28.52 inches with an overall width of 17.83 inches. Included are a set of our EXtreme oval port header gaskets and a complete header bolt kit to ensure your installation goes smoothly. The unique stacked double cone outlets provide a unique style that is sure to turn heads at your next cruise in!
