IMCA Approved Metric Chassis Control Arms with Aluminum Cross Shaft

The factory stamped style front Metric upper control arms do not provide the strength and reinforcement necessary to survive the circle track racing lap after lap. Flexing and cracking are the norm with stock stamped steel Metric upper control arms, which can lead to catastrophic control arm failure and a bad wreck. No one wants that. A much safer and stronger alternative is a steel tubular control arm. The increased strength and rigidity of this style of front upper control arms mean repeatable handling with minimal wear and maintenance. IMCA understands this and is why they allow a tubular control arm as the spec piece in classes such as Stock Car. Now you can replace your aging or worn stamped steel control arms with these stronger IMCA upper control arms for your Metric chassis-based race car.

Made from 1-inch diameter .092-inch wall thickness steel tubing and featuring a reinforced 1/4-inch-thick ball joint mounting plate, these IMCA approved tubular steel front upper control arms include heavy-duty steel cross shafts. These steel cross shafts are a metal-on-metal greaseable pivot design and weigh two pounds more per tubular control arm over our standard tubular control arm with aluminum cross shaft while providing increased durability. The cross shaft is designed to mount to GM Metric chassis fitments with 6-7/8-inch mount spacing (or use our weld-on mount plate). We made the left arm standard 8.50-inch in length to maintain the factory suspension geometry, while we shortened the right arm to 8.0 inches to increase negative camber for circle track use. These are often used in conjunction with “tall” ball joints, and these arms use standard Metric arm K5208 ball joints. An aluminum cross shaft version is also available for those looking to drop some front-end weight by sacrificing a little service life and strength.

Great Product for Vehicles with Headers

I have to use a metal bearing upper control arm because my headers will melt polyurethane. I had ordered a pair of these originally from a guy on ebay for a ridiculous price. What he doesn't tell you is what length he will sell you. (They are the 8.0" version) For a 3" (2" Spindle, 1" spring) lowered street driven 2003 S10 2X4: If you use the 8.5" version (Left upper control arm) for both sides, you will have to use a lot of shims. Took a guy 2.5hrs to shim mine. If you use the 8.0" version (Right upper control arm) for both sides, you will be limited on how well they can put a true alignment on the truck due to the limited space. (No such thing as anti-shims :-) ) Love the fact that these are metal bearing. However, standard road driving will eventually tear these apart. My original set lasted about 2.5yrs (50k miles). Note: Remove the zerk fittings and put on 1/4" 90 degree zerk fittings. This will allow you to grease easily. I do recommend these. Enjoy!

Poor quality

I have received 2 of these arms so far and they both had loose pivots right out of the box. I'm currently awaiting a 3rd on in the hopes that it is tight enough to use.

I have a 78 El Camino that I drag race occasionally. It is mostly used for street duty, approximately 3 to 4 thousand miles a year. Should I get the 8 inch or the 8.5 inch uppers for my car?
