A Nodular Iron 3rd Member That Can Take The Abuse, Launch After Launch
Ford’s 9-inch is the undisputed king of performance rear axles for most any racing you can imagine, but there’s nowhere the Ford 9-inch is more popular than in drag racing. The brute strength of a properly built 9-inch with premium performance internals can take substantial amounts of power and easily transfer it to the track surface through slicks or drag radials. Combine that strength with the 9-inch housing’s ease of gear change ability via a drop out 9-inch 3rd member (or 9-inch center section as some refer to it) means racers can easily change gear ratios to suit their power level or track length (1/4-mile vs 1/8-mile). Our nodular iron Ford 9-inch center section is the perfect foundation for your drag car’s 9-inch build to ensure it makes it across the finish line first. Weighing a beefy 36 pounds and designed to handle more than 1,200 horsepower, it’s built to go rounds and take home that class win!
Our Ford 9-inch 3rd member carrier is crafted from nodular iron, which resists deflection under load and handles the stress of higher horsepower without breaking a sweat! Nodular iron’s superior grain structure creates a heavy duty part that can handle extreme driveline stress when compared to standard gray iron castings. Additional material (over four pounds of additional ductile iron!) and reinforcement webbing built into the casting provides additional reinforcement. Along with the use of the heavier nodular iron material, thick forged steel bearing caps that use larger 3.25-inch carrier bearings that are secured by Grade 8 carrier cap bolts means you have the strongest starting point possible for your 9-inch 3rd member build. Precision machined surfaces provide for exacting fitment of sub-components and a leak free mounting of the Ford 9-inch center section to your 9-inch axle housing.
Designed To Accept All Popular Ford 9-Inch Third Member Internals
Our nodular iron Ford 9-inch third member housing is machined to accommodate the larger 3.25-inch carrier bearings required for high performance use commonly equated with differentials and spools that support 35-spline axles. We’ve even made your 9-inch Ford center section build easy, just grab one of our 9-inch 3.25 bearing kits when ordering your nodular carrier. It includes the correct 3.25-inch bearings, Daytona pinion support bearings, shims, gaskets, and seals to get your 9-inch third member assembled correctly.
Complete your build with a matching nodular iron Daytona pinion support and compatible pinion yoke with a new pinion nut. We also highly recommend upgrading to a solid pinion spacer when building your Ford 9-inch 3rd member to eliminate gear preload changes on hard launches or when servicing the pinion yoke. These are the same components we use in our in-house assembled 9-inch third members. After that, all that’s left is deciding on your gear ratio!
The path to a tough and dependable 9-inch Ford center section begins with our nodular iron case as the foundation. The rest is up to your specific needs, but rest assured whatever you need to finish assembling your custom 9-inch 3rd member, we have it on the shelf ready to ship!

Trac-Lock or Detroit locker In the description of this item, you state that it will not work with 28 or 31 spline spools. My question is will it work with a stock trac-lok, or an eaton, or a detroit locker case with 28 or 31 splines? Also, is this housing nodular or comparable to one? Thank you.
