Fenton 91013605 Details

Fenton® cast iron headers fit most Ford chassis from 1937-48 & 1952-53 with stock steering gear. Includes 5/16" steel collector flanges for exhaust pipe hook-up (for 2.00" O.D. pipe). Also includes gaskets.

  • Easy to install
  • Period correct style and construction
  • Lightweight cast material - traditional style with weight savings
  • Flange is 1/4" Thick
  • Steel

Some modification/grinding may be required for use with these vehicles when equipped with non-factory steering/suspension components: 1928-48 Ford cars, 1952-53 Ford cars, as well as 1949-51 Ford cars with stock steering.

Application Note: These headers won't fit most Model Ts or Model As due to narrow the frame width, particularly on the passenger side. 1948-52 Ford F1 (1/2 ton) pick-ups will have interference with one bolt on the stock steering box. That bolt can usually be modified so that the headers can be used. The headers will not work in 3/4 ton or larger trucks from 1948-52. Most 1942-48 Mercury cars will require shimming of the motor mount for steering clearance.

Overall Assessment

Customers generally hold a positive perception of the product, remarking on its excellent quality, precise fit, and practicality for various vehicle models. The superior craftsmanship of the headers is widely appreciated by users. They value the nostalgic appeal, durability, and excellent finish that adds a vintage touch to their restored vehicles. Many have repurchased or strongly recommended the product as a crucial part of flatheaded engines, noting their superior performance. Some pointed out issues with installation and clearance, recommending minor adjustments for optimal fitting. Overall, customers choose these headers over competitors for their matchless quality and functionality.

Nice Old School Headers

Installed on a 1939 Ford with engine in car, had to loosen motor mounts to get left side in place. Used the Speedway gaskets and Stainless mounting fasteners, see review on fasteners. SHCS are essential for installing these headers, as are ball end Allen wrenches. The left header barely clears the stock steering box. I am considering adding 1/4" spacers at the motor and trans mounts. The primary reason for installing these was to get dual exhaust. They look nice. Fit was good. Mounting surfaces were flat and smooth. Overall I am pleased. I do not recommend installing with engine in the car, but we did it. Would rate 5 stars if there was more steering box clearance.

Do not try to use them on a 1950 Ford Tu

I bought these from Speedway instead of the alternative because I did not want to take a chance on having to do a lot of work. I have one full day in it so far. I am 68 years old and have been doing this type of thing for a while. The passengers side is a dream but is 1/2" from the frame at th flange. The drivers side has been on and off 4 times. Grinding the steering box, filing the bolt holes, and cursing. Not worth the time. Gotta be a better way. Still not sure it will clear the string box and very close to the cross member. Try to finish it tomorrow. Painted them first but no good after all the banging and handling. What a joke. Save your money.

I installed these Fenton headers on a 1940 Ford with a 59a flathead engine. The headers dump in a perfect location to install the rest of the exhaust on both sides. The Fentons appear to be well made and look good. I used studs to install them as opposed to using bolts. This made the install much easier. NOTE: The car I installed these on had a Mustang ll front suspension thus a rack and pinion steering setup. No steering "box" to get in the way. Your car may be different.

All the answers I've read on using these headers in a '48 Ford have had the notice that the front engine mounts must be shimmed in order for the headers to have clearance on the steering box. That's true, I had to shim mine 3/8ths inch in order to get 1/4-inch clearance. What is NOT mentioned is that when the headers are installed, it is necessary to remove part of the top of the passenger side X-member in order to run a header pipe.

I had a pair of these on my 1950 Ford when I was younger, and now have acquired a 1949 that I am restoring and they fit perfectly, and are great quality, plus nostalgia of my younger days. I was blown away when I found them on Speedway.
