Daytona Pinion Support vs Standard Support
Developed initially for use in NASCAR racing by Ford, the Ford 9-inch Daytona pinion support improved on the original Ford 9-inch pinion support by providing larger bearings to support the pinion gear, which reduced gear deflection. This decreased wear on Ford 9-inch gears and breakage compared to the smaller Ford 9-inch pinion bearing. The Daytona pinion support also features larger oil channels to keep the pinion gear and bearings lubricated. Additionally, a solid pinion spacer was added that is setup using selectable shim thickness for pinion depth settings vs the stock Ford 9-inch crush sleeve, as the crush sleeve is known to crush further under heavy loads, changing the gear relationship/pattern between the ring gear and pinion gear. Lastly, the Daytona pinion support was cast from ductile nodular iron versus the production cast iron. This created a stronger casting that was less susceptible to fracturing under high loads.
Ford 9-Inch Nodular Case Compatibility
Today, the Daytona version of the Ford 9-inch pinion support is considered mandatory for any serious 9-inch build. Every one of our assembled 9-inch third member options, including the Ford 9-inch nodular case options, includes a Daytona pinion support in its assembly. We offer several Daytona pinion support options for those upgrading their current 9-inch third member or are building their own third member from scratch using their choice of Ford 9-inch pinion yoke and Ford 9-inch differential carriers. As our line of powder coated 9-inch components increases, including direct fit axle housings, third member housing, 1310 short pinion yoke, we have now added our matching black powder coated Daytona-style Ford 9-inch pinion support. A full line of universal width and direct fit Ford 9-inch housing offerings is also available if you're looking to custom paint your housing to match your ride's paint scheme.
Nodular Iron for Strength, Powder Coated for Protection
Let’s face it, many of us just don’t get under our rides like we should to keep the chassis and driveline looking good. If the paint is shiny and the wheels spotless on the top side the rest is an afterthought usually. But keeping your driveline clean and looking good serves several needs, including keeping rust and corrosion at bay for those that truly drive their vehicles in less than perfect weather. Sure, you can rattle can your fresh 9-inch axle build with some “chassis black” spray paint, but that paint thickness is barely enough to seal the metal and all it takes is one small scratch for moisture to get in and start rusting your hard-earned dollars away. Using powder coated driveline parts (or having your parts powder coated like transmission case, bellhousing, and more) provides a tough layer of protection that also offers a great aesthetic value as well that is easy to clean.
We’ve combined the best of both worlds in our powder coated Daytona nodular iron Ford 9-inch pinion support. You get all the benefits of the famed Daytona 9-inch pinion support we mentioned above, plus a professionally applied powder coated surface that will keep the elements at bay while looking great doing it. Build your new Ford 9-inch axle using our powder coated components and you’ll not have to worry about crawling under your ride to “touch things up” each spring with that spray can of paint in hand. These powder coated components are an excellent value when you consider what it often costs to have items powder coated locally and these powder coated 9-inch items are ready to go right out of the box to keep your project moving forward.
Installation & Maintenance Tips
Grab yourself our Daytona bearing kit, which includes everything you need to properly set up your new powder coated Daytona 9-inch pinion support. Optionally, you can add our Daytona pinion seal retainer for that extra bit of security as well. We also stock a full selection of 9-inch hardware to help your build be a success.
