ATK’s HPDFDW is a remanufactured Ford Modular 5.4L SOHC V8 crate engine built for 2005–2008 applications, featuring a VVT/phaser lockout setup for more consistent, trouble-free operation. Each engine is torn down and rebuilt using a repeatable process: major components (heads, block, crankshaft, camshaft) are machined as needed, wear parts are replaced, and the finished assembly is tested for compression, oil pressure, and sealed water jacket integrity.
This offering ships assembled with the phaser lockout kit already installed (follow the included instructions), plus the timing cover and oil pan installed to streamline the install. It’s configured for 16mm spark plugs (black boot) and uses timing cover castings #5C3E-BA, 3R2E-CA, and 5C3Z. The foundation is a cast-iron block with aluminum heads, internal balance, 1-piece rear main seal, and an OEM-style SOHC cam layout.
Like most crate/long-block setups, several bolt-ons are not included—no intake manifold, throttle body/carb, valve covers, water pump, harmonic balancer, flexplate/flywheel, ignition components, or electronics. Notes also indicate a cam/phaser DOD lockout is installed, and a handheld tuner is included so the system can be shut off in the vehicle.
