Make Your Front Disc Brake Conversion Go Smoothly with Our Dual Master Cylinder Kit
When you’ve finally had enough of your finicky front drum brakes on your ’50s Ford car sticking, chattering, fading, or even pulling to one side, you know the best answer is a front disc brake conversion. Adding front disc brakes to your ’54-’56 Ford car, including the venerable ’55-’57 Thunderbird, vastly improves your classic Ford’s braking performance and stability in high speed or panic braking situations. Our 11-inch disc brake conversion kit for these cars is the perfect solution at the wheel, but in the past, you’ve had to rely on the original single reservoir master cylinder, which is far from optimal for disc brake usage, or cobble together your own dual reservoir master cylinder conversion kit from multiple sources. We’ve solved this dilemma with our bolt-in single to dual master cylinder conversion kit.
A Bolt-In Dual Bowl Master Cylinder to Optimize Your Front Disc Brake Conversion
Using a standard steel Ford-style 1-inch dual reservoir master cylinder with wire bail retained lid as the basis for this kit, our dual master cylinder not only provides the proper line pressures for front disc brakes, but also splits the front and rear brake systems, providing safer operation over the factory “all or nothing” single bowl master cylinder. The dual master cylinder is direct bolt on with zero modifications required to your Ford’s firewall. We provide a powder coated 10-gauge steel reinforcement panel in the kit that mounts to the firewall and retains the use of all four factory mounting holes for strength. This helps spread the load to the four factory mounting locations, reducing stress on the firewall’s sheetmetal.
Also included in the kit is a powder coated mounting bracket to neatly mount the included Ford-style proportioning valve adjacent to the dual reservoir master cylinder. Braided AN -3 PTFE lined brake hoses are included, along with adapter fittings and banjo fittings for the dual reservoir master cylinder, to connect the lines from the dual master cylinder to the proportioning valve and from the proportioning valve to the vehicle’s hard lines. A .060-inch thick stainless steel heat shield is included as well that quickly mounts via the master cylinder’s inboard fasteners to keep engine and exhaust heat away from the master cylinder’s fluid reservoir. All mounting fasteners for the single to dual master cylinder conversion and proportioning valve are included as well.
Enjoy The Drive Knowing You Have Brakes That Can Handle Today’s Traffic
Our dual reservoir master cylinder conversion kit, when combined with a front disc brake upgrade, becomes the perfect solution to enjoy driving your ’54-’56 Ford or ’55-’57 “Baby Bird” in today’s traffic. Modern road speeds, inattentive drivers, and more all mean you must have a braking system that is up to the task. Knowing that when you indeed need to step on the brakes you shouldn’t have to wonder if the brakes are going to throw you into the next lane, shake your fillings out, or simply just not stop you in time. A dual master cylinder is a real necessity today and our dual reservoir master cylinder conversion kit makes it an easy process so you can enjoy your ’50s era Ford car without worry, and that’s what we all want when we hit the road in our classics.

I upgraded the brakes on my '55 Fairlane and opted for this dual reservoir master cylinder replacement. The installation was rather easy, with the only real issues being that I had to modify the included mounting bracket for the proportioning valve and install a new pressure switch for the brake lights in order to not have to modify my existing wiring. My only suggestion would be to add a diagram / drawing of the proportioning valve internal construction. That would have saved some time hunting them down in order to properly attach a new pressure switch

Kit was comprehensive and good quality, however, the master cylinder went rusty a week after fitting it. After making hard lines for it, not only is it a big job to take off and paint, all the brakes need bleeding again.

Used this on a '55 Thunderbird, I was really happy with how complete the kit is, and it seems really well thought out. Made installing a dual master cylinder around the battery and hood latch a breeze.

Pretty good selection of parts in kit,no permanent mods needed. I only had to buy one fitting. Hardest part is getting the master cylinder pushrod bolt and nut removed and reinstalled, removing the seat and or steering wheel might be an option next time.
