Sherman Oldsmobile Street Parts

Speedway Motors was selected by Arrow Electronics to prepare Sam Schmidt’s vehicles for Optima’s Ultimate Street Car Challenge where he will race for the first time since becoming a quadriplegic in 2000.

This is more than the story of a vintage sprint car. It's also the story of how a dynamic duo of "Speedy" Bill Smith and Jan Opperman toppled giants at the 1976 Hulman Classic.

In 2000, Sam Schmidt was involved in a serious crash testing his Indy car. He was paralyzed from the neck down. But that hasn't stopped him from hitting the track, and he does it in this hot rod Corvette packed full of miraculous electronic innovation.

Today, we're following along as Jason Martin builds the Pro Shocks for our sprint car and installs them. There's lots to learn from this episode!

Looking to change that old steering wheel out for something that's a better fit in your hot rod or classic? Speedway Motors offers a wide variety of steering wheel styles that look right at home in your vintage interior.
