Weight is a Racer’s Worst Enemy and Titanium Bolts Are a Great Way to Put Your Race Car on A Diet

It doesn’t matter what you race, weight is always a racer’s top concern. Trying to find a way to reduce overall chassis weight and determine where best to place the weight on the chassis is a constant struggle. From fluids to the battery, and even wiring, everything is considered for weight reduction and location on a race car’s frame.

If you race the local dirt track or dragstrip where your race car uses beadlock wheels you may have thought that the beadlock design and its high fastener count was unavoidable to ensure your tires stay mounted on the wheel’s bead at low tire pressures and high tire loads. That is true, but you can find weight savings here as well by upgrading from the beadlock ring’s steel bolts to titanium beadlock bolts.

Titanium beadlock bolts have equal, if not higher, tensile strength to the same size Grade 8 steel beadlock bolts at anywhere from 40-50 percent reduction in weight (depending upon bolt size). That adds up quick when you’re talking roughly 20 beadlock bolts per wheel on a single 15-inch beadlock wheel. If you run a larger diameter wheel or double beadlocks your weight savings will be even larger!

Our Tru-Lite titanium beadlock bolts are designed with a six-point flange head for easy installation that provides greater clamping force than a standard head with separate washer. The threads are heat treated and rolled for strength, but the use of an assembly lube to prevent galling is highly encouraged. These Tru-Lite titanium bolts are available in three sizes to cover the most common beadlock ring fastener needs, including 5/16-18 x 3/4-inch, 5/16-18 x 1-inch, and 1/4-20 x 3/4-inch.
