Block Hugger Header Tube Type, Oval Exhaust Port Shape
- These small block Chevy tight fit headers work well on early hot rods with narrow frame widths due to the slim 4" distance from the flange to outermost point
- 1-5/8" primary tubes and 2-1/2" collectors aid in fitting tight clearance applications
- These come painted black for corrosion protection prior to use - we suggest stripping the paint and applying your preferred color of high temperature header paint
- 2 1/2" diameter mandrel bent tubes curve back a at 90 degree angle and are offset outward to clear the bell housing and starter
- Premium 16 gauge mild steel tubing allows for easy welding and fabrication

Headers
These small block Chevy tight-fit headers are the most universal steel tube shorty headers available. They even fit difficult applications where space is limited. The block hugger headers are a favorite for street rods, as well as many 1950s and 1960s cars and vintage trucks.
- Most tight fit header applications require the use of Accel shorty spark plugs
- Compact design
- Will NOT fit angle plug heads
- Includes reducers, gaskets and bolts
- 1-5/8" primary tubes
- 2-1/2" collector
- Head Flange Thickness: 0.35"
Extensions
Using this kit makes the hook-up of your exhaust system a snap! The 2-1/2" diameter, 16-gauge, mandrel-bent tubes curve back at a 90° angle and are offset outward to clear the bellhousing and starter. They drop 10-1/2" from the header flange and they extend backward 17-1/2" after the 90 degree bend.
Just trim the length, weld on the 9/32" thick collector flange (included, with gaskets) and you're all set! Works great with any tight-fit headers.
Application
- Can be used with most oil filter systems and transmission/starter combinations.
- Will not fit '55-'57 Chevy cars, Camaros, or other modern vehicles which have a crossmember below the engine's center two exhaust ports.
- Will not clear a "clam shell" style motor mount (found on 1973-newer Chevy cars & trucks).
- Will not clear angle plug heads.

What I liked best about the fit I was able to use factory style Chevy starter and side motor mounts in my 1940 Studebaker Coupe. The extension pipes were a plus being versatile for various vehicles although I had to cut 7" on the down pipe for ground clearance.
