Our Forged Mustang II Spindles Won’t Leave You Stranded
The venerable Mustang II IFS has been a popular upgrade for straight axle hot rods and pickup trucks for decades. What started out as a custom fabricated weld in solution using the stock Mustang 2 frontend has melded into a complete industry of custom bolt in and weld in Mustang II IFS suspension kit crossmembers that are specific to many popular applications, including hot rods, pickups, and muscle cars. The original Mustang 2 spindles (and Pinto/Bobcat) are cast pieces. While you can still find original Mustang II spindles, and replacement cast Mustang 2 spindles are available, upgrading to forged Mustang II spindles is your best solution.
Forged Mustang II spindles are hot forged under pressure to their final shape and then surfaces machined. This forging process maintains the metal’s grain structure for increased strength. Cast Mustang II spindles are made from a mold that molten steel is poured into, thus having less strength in critical areas due to the non-uniform grain structure. Cast Mustang II spindles have been known to fail, especially original Ford units, which is why we only offer forged spindles for your Mustang II installation. These spindles feature stock height pins, fully machined for stock bearings, ball joint taper, and disc brake caliper mounting. Pair with your favorite disc brake package and you’re ready for many years of trouble free driving. the left front spindle had a ridge where the taper met the spot that the inner bearing sits and I was unable to get the inner bearing on. It fit on the right spindle fine. So with some fine emery cloth and a lot of polishing and a little cussing I was able to get the bearing past that spot and in the location. You could feel the ridge very easily. I measured the rough spots and they were .003 larger than the spot where the bearing sits. I wasn't real pleased the way it was machined.
