High Density Polyethylene sheet (HDPE) is a hard plastic sheet with many uses. It is commonly used in the motorsports world for creating air dams, side skirts, and even complete karting bodies. HDPE sheets have a natural “non-stick” type of surface which makes it perfect for dirt track use, as mud and dirt have a hard time sticking to it, and what does stick to it cleans off easily. So, it is easy to see why HDPE sheet plastic is used throughout a race car’s body. With so much of a race car’s body made from HDPE hard plastic sheet it is understandable that eventually repairs will need to be made due to contact with other racers or the wall. HDPE hard plastic sheets are one of those products that you’ll buy for a specific racing need but end up using it for a multitude of things, which is why it’s best to order more than you need or more than one color. Once you’ve completed your race car’s plastic sheet repairs, you’ll end up using the left overs for all manner of projects around the shop or home. We’ve ended up using this HDPE sheet plastic for projects around the shop. Really, there is no limit as to what you can do with this material.

Is HDPE Strong? Is HDPE Sheet Flexible? Yes, Yet Cuts Easily with Tin Snips, Shears, or Razor Knife

Our Racer’s Crash Repair kit features a 25-foot roll of HDPE sheet plastic is available in six high gloss colors, including red, white, Pepsi (light) blue, Chevron (dark) blue, yellow, and black. Each 25 foot hard plastic roll is 22-inches wide, and the material is 1/8-inch thick. We also offer a 10-foot roll of 1/8 plastic sheet if you need just a bit more! The thickness of these hard plastic sheets provides plenty of support when used as a side skirt or air damn for your race car but is still thin enough that it can be bent using a sheet metal brake with a heat gun used to “cure” the angle the sheet is bent to while it is still in the brake.

Our HDPE sheets cuts easily using aviation snips, metal shears, or a utility knife (best with a straight edge guide like a steel ruler and a set of clamps). You’ll be surprised at how easy the thin flexible plastic sheet is to cut and the edges can be cleaned up with a router or hand sanding to provide a nice, safe, snag free edge so you don’t cut your racing suit getting in and out of your race car!

Most Rigid Plastic, But Easily Secured with Rivets, Screws, or Quarter Turn Fasteners

Making body repairs on your race car with our sheet of hard plastic can be accomplished in numerous ways depending on how you plan to use the colored hard plastic sheets. For most, permanent installation on race car bodies the use of rivets is quick and easy. Besides the HDPE rolled sheet, our crash repair kit includes a big 250 count box of our standard 3/16 large head rivets with a 1/4-inch to 3/8-inch grip range in this kit (available in all six matching colors plus orange and flat black to blend in or contrast as you see fit) to help you install your colored plastic sheet material on your race car. Also included are our 500 count box of backing washers and a sixpack of 3/16-inch double ended drill bits to create rivet mounting holes. Finally, a single 30 foot roll of racers tape and a 100 count package of 14-inch zip ties, both in your choice of color, are included too.

If your broken panels were secured by bolts that are now damaged or missing, our race car body bolt kit that uses “clip nuts” will get these replacement panels secured easily. Lastly, if your race car’s damaged plastic sheets were secured with 1/4-turn fasteners for panel retention and quick access, we offer a 10-pack kit of 1/4-turn fasteners that are perfect for retaining your new HDPE plastic sheets. Some damage may require our pre-cut spring steel mounting straps or our universal race car body mounting kit to repair your custom cut sheet of flexible plastic and hold them in place on your race car securely.
