Mustang II Brake Kit Compatibility

The Mustang II independent front suspension has been a popular upgrade for over 50 years. From humble beginnings as salvage yard take outs to today’s high tech tubular arm setups with coilovers, it is a proven suspension design that works for most applications. The original Mustang II front end was designed for the lightweight needs of the second-generation Mustang, the 1974-1978 Mustang II. This suspension would also find its way to the 1974-1979 Ford Pinto and Mercury Bobcat cousins as well.

The original single piston calipers and 9-1/4-inch Mustang II rotors used in Mustang II brakes handled braking admirably for cars of similar weight, such as fiberglass bodied hot rods. Heavier cars benefitted from larger 11-inch or larger Mustang II disc brake conversions that are still popular today. For those running the original small Mustang II rotors, our Mustang II single piston disc brake calipers are the perfect upgrade to keep you on the road, and the black or red powder coat feature will really make them stand out behind your custom wheels.

Powder Coated Brake Calipers for Mustang II

We didn’t reinvent the wheel here; we just made it look a whole lot nicer! We took our IMCA approved cast steel Mustang II single piston caliper, which features a single 2.59-inch steel piston, and gave it a rich black or red powder coat finish. This powder coating not only saves you the time and hassle of disassembling the calipers for powder coating locally, but will no doubt be a more cost-effective solution for those looking to powder coat their calipers from their Mustang II brake kits. Additionally, the finish you'll find on powder coat brake calipers is superior to spray paint or caliper paint applications and provides a robust surface that keeps corrosion at bay and your calipers looking great for many years.

Mustang II Brake Caliper Specs

Each caliper is precision machined and features a 7/16-24 fluid inlet that works with our standard banjo-end Mustang II brake hose kit. The brake bleeder screw is a standard 3/8-24 bleeder screw that arrives pre-installed. Included with each caliper is all new installation hardware, including a brake caliper support key, caliper support key spring, key retaining screw, and anti-rattle spring. These are a direct bolt on upgrade to any Mustang 2 disc brake kit that utilizes the standard 9.25-inch Mustang II rotors. Meaning, these calipers are specific to original 9-1/4-inch Mustang II rotors and will not work with the larger 11-inch and up Mustang II brake conversion kits on the market (they generally use GM Metric calipers or aftermarket calipers). Disc brake pads are not included, and we offer a traditional street compound brake pad set for use with these calipers and your 9-1/4-inch Mustang II rotors or Mustang II disc brake conversion kit.
