Update Your Chevy Truck’s Mechanical Clutch Linkage to Hydraulic
Being a proud member of the “Three Pedal Club” does not mean every time you get behind the wheel it has to be leg day at the gym as well. With today’s traffic congestion many of us will often give pause to taking out our trusty C10 pickup for a cruise. The mere thought of all that clutch in/out work most likely already has the calf muscles in your left leg twitching, and we don’t blame you. The original mechanical clutch linkage is rudimentary at best and toss in a performance clutch and it can really be a bear to get that pedal modulated. Upgrading from a mechanical to hydraulic clutch conversion means smoother engagement, less pedal effort, and no more “erector set” under the hood taking up valuable exhaust header and steering linkage space.
Add Our Hydraulic Clutch Conversion Kit and Give Your Left Leg A Rest
The factory “Z-bar” style linkage relies on pivot points between the frame rail and the engine. This means as your engine’s torque increases (and engine mounts wear or fail) the linkage can bind, leaving your clutch pedal on the floor and your engine and trans disengaged. With no load on the engine from the drivetrain and your right foot buried to the wood, you better have a rev limiter because if you’re not quick on the loud pedal your engine’s rpms are headed north really, really fast. All of this adds up to a really bad day and more than likely a ride of shame home on a roll back.
But things don’t have to be that way. By adding our hydraulic clutch conversion kit to your 1960-1966 Chevy truck you get a strong 10-gauge steel black powder coated mounting plate that reinforces the firewall and provides a mounting point for our 3/4-inch bore hydraulic master cylinder with integral fluid reservoir. This mounting plate also works as your drill template when drilling the mounting bolt holes and clutch pushrod hole in your firewall. Once mocked up it is simply a matter of drilling a hole in your clutch pedal arm to attach the master cylinder pushrod hardware to. This mounting plate allows the hydraulic clutch master cylinder to clear both manual and power brake setups, even large 11-inch diameter power brake boosters clear. This is not a universal hydraulic clutch kit, but a hydraulic clutch conversion kit specifically designed for 1960-1966 Chevy trucks like the C10 and Suburban. Whether you are planning a Muncie 4 speed hydraulic clutch conversion or swapping a modern manual trans with hydraulic throwout bearing, this kit is will help you get the job done quickly and easily. We offer a similar conversion kit for you ’67-’72 C10 pickup owners as well!
Converting To a Hydraulic Clutch Conversion Kit Cleans Up Your Engine Bay
The stock mechanical clutch linkage is not only a pain to manually adjust and keep in good working order, but the linkage often interferes with exhaust and steering upgrades. Want to convert to rack and pinion with a tilt column? In the way. Want to add some nice tubular headers to your V-8? In the way. Going LS swap? There’s no provision for the Z-bar pivot to thread into on the block side. Overall, the mechanical linkage just creates a lot of headaches in other than a completely stock and original drivetrain. With our conversion kit being so easy to install why not go hydraulic and rid yourself of the maintenance hassles of constant lubrication, wear, and adjustment of the mechanical parts, which if they are original are no doubt at the end of their service life by now?
The included Speedway clutch master cylinder uses a traditional 3/8-24 inverted flare fluid port to allow plumbing of your fluid line to your clutch hydraulic throwout bearing or external push/pull slave cylinder. The reservoir is 3-1/2-inches tall and holds 1.4-ounces of fluid, while the 3/4-inch hydraulic clutch master cylinder bore is perfect for most hydraulic throwout bearing or slave cylinder setups, providing smooth pedal operation with light effort, making your drive that much more enjoyable. Plus, modern hydraulic clutch setups are self-adjusting too! No more crawling under your truck to adjust the mechanical linkage as your clutch disc wears! A weekend under your truck now upgrading to a hydraulic clutch setup will no doubt save you many weekends in your future under your truck adjusting and maintaining your mechanical clutch linkage. Sounds like a winner to us!

Customers appreciate the product for its easy assembly, acknowledging that minor adjustments might be needed on older vehicle models, such as our 60-year-old farm truck. The product is praised for its quality, practicality, and great performance for function. Issues raised like the hole adjustment on the firewall plate and the position of the pedal bracket show room for improvement, but overall, it delivers satisfactory results, as demonstrated by customers' willingness to repurchase.

Kit went together very easy , only thing is I had to open up the predrilled holes a little with a step drill, to be expected on a 60 year old farm truck, other than that worked ok great

Needed to move hole some on firewall plate. And the drivers side of plate crashed into front wire harness. Had to grind off about 1/4". Bracket that bolts to peddle is about 2" too low which causes push rod to bind up inside the clutch master. Put adjusting rod in press to bend it some to make it clear.
