Installed in my 59 Ranchero 292 Y Block. I had some fitment concerns. I called the tech number and got the information I needed. I needed to rotate the face plate so the solenoid would clear the draglink. Works as it should. I'm pleased.

Bought this after discovering whom ever had did the 6to 12 volt conversion on our '55 Mercury Montclair had left the original 6v starter and just put 12v to it. IDK why people think that'll work, it doesn't. The way I discovered it was, I had a prolonged cranking situation and when the cable from the solenoid to the started melting the insulation off, well that was the clue to what was going on. Removed the old 100# original starter ordered this one and other than having to open one hole from 1/4" to 5/16". It was an easy install and direct fit. Turns over faster, better and more smoothly. Highly recommend!

Stater was going out on my 59 Ford Fairlane. I didn't reallly like the OG design of the Y Block starter. Just seems backwards and heavy. This starter works great so far. Engine starts after about 2 revolutions now.
