Mockup Your Turbo Build’s Hot and Cold Side Piping Quickly and Easily

Doing a turbo build with a modern muscle ride like a Mustang or Camaro is fairly easy with several DIY direct fit offerings on the market. But when creating a custom turbo setup for your ’60s muscle car, early hot rod, or classic truck, especially one that has seen an engine swap of some sort, you’re left to figure out turbo placement, turbo hot side piping and cold side piping. What this means is that your turbo ends up being used for mockup purposes, potentially damaging the unit from mishandling. Not to mention those turbos are pretty heavy and hard to work with when there is little in the way of supporting the turbo until the turbo plumbing is completed.

Mocking up turbo systems over the years we knew all this and figured there had to be a better way. After looking at mockup engine blocks the light bulb went off. Why not a mockup turbo too? Speedway Motors’ engineers got to work, and the results are what you see here. A T4 turbo flange mockup kit that allows you to adjust to your particular turbo’s dimensions (including T3 turbo with T4 flange) to allow for fitment to your engine and engine compartment so you can more easily create your hot side and cold side plumbing while your turbo sits safely on your workbench or parts shelf.

We designed our turbo mockup kit from 12 gauge steel (just under 1/8-inch thick) that is laser cut and press bent so there is enough strength to support mounting turbo hot side piping directly to the mockup unit and not flex when designing your turbo’s hot and cold side tubing routing to the engine and things like LS turbo headers. The large 1/2-13 threaded shaft with flange nuts secures the turbine and compressor mockup pieces along with the turbine outlet and compressor inlet pieces for a strong central backbone to support everything while allowing easy clocking of the turbine to the compressor. The turbine T4 turbo inlet flange and compressor outlet flanges are designed to adjust on their included sliders and hardware for perfect positioning. The unit ships with two compressor outlet flanges, 2.5-inch, and 3-inch, allowing you to mockup popular T3 turbo (with T4 turbo flange) and T4 turbo models.
