The modified HEI Dust Cover allows you to remove the stock HEI coil in your distributor cap, and replace it with an externally mounted coil such as the Blaster 2. Designed to be installed on stock HEI distributor caps with no modification.

Not only did this product make it possible to use external ignition coils, but looks great too. Used this with a Blaster 2 coil to replace the HEI under cap coil and couldn't be happier. Will be shopping with Speedway a lot in the future.

I have a 1974 Pontiac T/A 400 in my '40 Pontiac (with lots of Speedway parts). Since I only have one wire going to the HEI dist from the ignition, I don't have the "factory" plug. Can I simply put my ignition wire to the external coil positive, add a ground and be good to go? I can hook my Speedway tac directly to the negative coil also, right? I fried a module today, and I'm liking the idea of removing coil heat from the cap. Thanks!
