Black insulation tape turned white after 200 miles?

This seems to do it's job keeping the engine bay temps down. however after just 200 miles the black tape turned white and I had chosen black thinking it would look better. I. would like a product that holds it's color. I like the Idea of header insulation but perhaps not this one.
