    My application required the full length of supplied threaded rod, which had a habit of flexing before movement occurred on the trans shift lever. I used 3/8 stainless tube and welded in threaded rod on each end to provide accurate detent location. I also built a longer bell crank lever for kickdown lever clearance and easier shifter movement and now the shifting is smooth and effortless on my 727. The instructions suggest you can bend the threaded rod slightly but that provides a weak spot in the linkage and may result in side to side slop. I would use this product again with the same modifications
